Sightseeing & Culture

For many the most dramatic feature is the ruins of the Ionic Temple of Apollo with its columns pointing up into the sky, and its legend of the romance between Apollo and Daphne. The original temple and home of an oracle was destroyed during the Persian Wars and the one we see today was rebuilt following the victory over the Persians of Alexander the Great. [2] [3] [4] Nearby Miletos, the ruins of the ancient city including a well-preserved antique theatre, stadium, baths of Faustina, temple of Serapis and much more.

The transıent nature and greatness is rarely as clearly displayed as ıt ıs ın Ephesus, a city once renowned throughtout the ancıent world as a major tradıng port, a metropolıs of some 250,000 ınhabıtants and relıgıous and cultural center. It was also the home of one of the seven wonders of the Ancıent World, monumental temple of Artemıs known as Dıana to the Romans. Ephesus holds an ımportant place ın the hıstory of the early Chrıstıan Church as ıt ıs here that St.Paul preached and ıt was to the Ephesıans that he adressed some of hıs memorable teachıngs. Some 400 year after St.Paul’s vısıt a great ecumenıcal councıl assembled here to hold heated theologıcıal arguments and lay down the law

As all the reviews say, this place is amazing! There is is just So much history in Turkey and so much of it is on show here. We had a tour guide which made it far more enjoyable and interesting. Unless you are a huge history buff, I'd recommend doing this as part of a tour.

It's such a remarkable feeling to be able to see the ancient city of Ephesus. I just read it on the bible before and can't believe that I was able to walk on it's paths. It's an outstanding experience. Don't forget to take your photo at the Library of Celsus and The amphitheater it's absolutely amazing! I'm glad to get to see the Agora where Paul probably preached during his time. My guide also pointed to me a far away hill where Paul was also imprisoned for two years
